VIP recognizes that one of the Haitian's greatest needs is equipment, which will help jump-start, its economy and make the most of the limited resources this nation possesses. To that end, VIP has provided a number of innovative resources, such as Solar Ovens and Solar Water Heaters for all of the 24-Hour Clinics they support, thus providing an alternative to using expensive charcoal for fuel, and saving the trees in this very barren land. Donations of equipment are always welcome. Please contact us if you feel you can help 262-338-8254
In the last decade, VIP, in cooperation with Rotary International, has shipped both family size and institutional size Solar Ovens to Haiti. Solar Ovens and training how to use them provides a method for the Haitians to prevent further deforestation and waste in their country. Please click on this provided link and consider a donation for this much needed piece of equipment. Your donations here help in so many ways beyond just an alternative method for cooking food. The goal of VIP at this time is to provide a Solar (Sun) Oven for each 4-H Club.

On the agricultural side, vocational classes on goat care and presentation of a pregnant goat have been provided so Haitians can begin building herds to provide milk and nutrition for their children. A donation of $120.00 provides not just the pregnant goat but training in the skills that are needed to care for the goat and assure that the delivered Kid grows to maturity. Each family that receives a pregnant goat has to give the first female offspring to the organization to help start other herds as well. This provides not just nutrition but income for the poor families.
In 2006 VIP initiated the -4-H. Haiti Grant Program. Grants of $150 US dollars are given to Clubs who have successfully completed a year of club work. Clubs submit an application for approval since the expectation is that they provide a community service. Not only does this reach the 4-H members, but, also, the whole community as they seek volunteers to help work with the projects.
On our visit to Haiti in June we had the opportunity to go to se the progress that the seven H Clubs in the Mirebalais area had made on the projects they started wit their $150 US Grants they received in January of 2006. We were MOST favorably impressed!
- Two clubs "capped" mountain springs and built covered cisterns over them to provide clean water for their community. Each cistern has a caretaker that sees to it that the water is tested and has chlorine added at intervals designated by the water Dept. in Mirebalais.
- One has a beautiful gardening project on the flat top of the mountain n Saut de Eau. They are raising 5 kinds of fruit tree seedlings and 2 trees for construction. In addition they have pots of vegetable plants for sale to the community. The project will thus be perpetuated.
- One has built a community latrine on a busy stretch of road that leads to Mirebalais.
- One restored a building and turned it into a school. New roof, benches, blackboard, desk, windows and paint job for 20 students.
- One built a public fountain with two faucets. The caretaker lives right there and monitors the use. It is open 6 hours twice a day.
- One fixed a road (about 2 blocks) that was easily flooded when it rained and became impassable, especially to vehicles. It took 3 truck loads of rocks and 10 of sand which made the road solid & safe for travel (even for donkeys!).
All of the clubs called on volunteers from the community to help provide the labor.
HAITIANS' ACCOMPLISHMENTS DEPEND ON HOW THEY MANAGE THEIR SCARCITY - OUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS DEPEND ON HOW WE MANAGE OUR ABUNDANCE!!
