Some of Our Projects What Your Help Means...

EDUCATION: Less than half of Haiti's school age children attend classes, primarily because in most areas public education is not readily available, and the cost of private education is far more than their parents can afford. Through contributions and monies raised from a variety of projects, VIP can offer Haitian children the chance to receive an elementary education, and take that first big step towards improving their lives. VIP currently maintains an active education program and always needs sponsors for a child.

$150 per year will send a child to school

$120 provides vocational school education on goat care and a goat for a 4-H Club member

$150 provides a grant for a 4-H Club to carry out a community project.

Undesignated funds give the VIP Board the opportunity to determine their use for priority and emergency needs promptly.

HEALTH CARE: VIP was the first to bring health care to the Mirebalais area, providing health care, immunizations, physicals, etc., to more than 400 people a day in "clinics" set up in schools, churches, houses and backyards. There is always great need for medical supplies. Health Care teaching is a request from medical colleagues as well as 4-H clubs and VIP is willing to oblige. "Clinics" are set up on a needs basis.

    ENVIRONMENTAL PRESERVATION:
VIP recognizes that one of the Haitians' greatest needs is equipment which will help jump start its economy and make the most of the limited resources this nation possesses. To that end, VIP has provided a number of innovative resources, like Solar Water Heaters for all five 24-Hour Clinics, thus providing an alternative to using expensive charcoal for fuel, and saving the trees in this very barren land.

CLEAN WATER: The lack of sanitary drinking water is one of Haiti's biggest problems. Most Haitians must rely on rainwater, or water taken from polluted streams that must be boiled before it can be used for their needs. To that end, and with the help of Rotary International, VIP has helped put in over 30 wells throughout the Mirebalais, Haiti that need to be maintained. Good drinking water is a must if you are to raise healthy children. 4-H clubs have made clean water a priority and have capped mountain springs to fill reservoirs for community use.

4-H GOAT PROJECT: VIP helps support an animal husbandry project that provides needed food, income and a sense of community for a Haitian family. For $120 dollars, Ventures in People can provide a goat and 20 hours of training on the care and feeding of these animals as well as basic medications to keep the goat healthy. The first female kid is donated back to the project to further the project. Goats are "family friendly" animals and can become pets.

4-H HAITI: 4-H provides learning opportunities for youth to improve their way of life and that of their family and community. Emphasis is put on instruction in Community Health, Nutrition, Agriculture and Leadership Skills. It is an organization of volunteers seeking to help improve the future of their community and country. Since its beginning in 1996 with two clubs of 20 members each, 4-H Haiti has grown to 20 clubs with over 1900 members.
